Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell if my mortar joints need repointing?
If you can scrape mortar out with a screwdriver, see hairline cracks at joints, or have water staining inside, your joints are failing.
What kind of mortar do you use?
Type N from Beacon Supply for most residential and historic work. Type N is softer than the brick, which is correct for repointing on older buildings. Pre-mixed bagged mortar only, never site-mixed.
How long does mortar last?
Quality repointing should last 25 to 50 years. Original mortar that has reached the end of its life typically dates back 50 to 100 years.
Do you own scaffolding?
Yes. We own our scaffolding and never charge rental on repointing jobs.
