A pool deck built for backfill that's still settling, and for bare feet.

The ring of ground around a pool was excavated and backfilled, and that backfill keeps consolidating for years afterward. It's the main reason a poured slab so often cracks around a pool while pavers don't: pavers ride the movement, and any one of them can be lifted and reset without a saw. We build the base and the drainage first, pitch the deck away from the pool so runoff and lawn chemicals don't end up in the water, set slip-resistant pavers with a proper coping detail, and lock the joints with polymeric sand instead of loose sand that washes into the filter.
