Curb in Massachusetts takes a specific kind of beating: freeze-thaw working at it from inside, deicing salt scaling the surface, and a plow blade catching the ends every winter. Curb that lasts is cast in place on a compacted base with an air-entrained mix, jointed at proper intervals so it cracks where you put the joint rather than wherever it wants, and backfilled behind so nothing undermines it. Replacement is usually sectional, saw-cut back to a joint, broken out and hauled off, then formed and repoured to match the line and reveal of the runs on either side.
